Why Volunteer at Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen?

Girl

You can see the results of your work.
Holy Apostles serves over 1,100 meals every day, Monday-Friday, all year around. Our hungry guests receive not only a hot meal, but they often tell us that the friendly greetings and warm smiles of volunteers and staff brighten their day.

You have fun! The problems of hunger and homelessness are very difficult, but in the community that has formed among the Soup Kitchen guests, volunteers, and staff, we know that laughter goes a long way to make things easier. We work hard, but we have a great time.

You can meet interesting people. Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen's volunteers are from all walks of life: professionals, students, retirees, former Soup Kitchen guests, and more. There are representatives from a variety of countries, from many different racial and ethnic backgrounds, and various religions (or none). Volunteers come from the neighborhood and from as far away as New Jersey, Connecticut, and Long Island.

Volunteers What Will I Be Doing?

Soup Kitchen volunteers work Monday through Friday from 9:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. We need 40-50 volunteers daily to help "run" the Soup Kitchen. Work just one day or make a regular commitment – it depends on you and your schedule. Volunteers assist in serving on the food line, greeting guests, collecting individual meal tickets, handing out drinks, and clearing and cleaning tables when the guests are finished eating.
