Dear Members & Friends of Holy Apostles,
We are approaching the 3rd Sunday of Advent in which we light the pink candle in the Advent wreath and the Celebrant wears the pink chasuble. The pink or rose color symbolizes joy at the soon to be Advent of Christ-only 2 weeks more to wait until Christmas!
But how are we waiting? Is it with joy at the coming of God's incarnate Love which we in fact already possess? Is it with gratitude for the gift of God in Jesus who saves and enlivens us? Is it with anxiety that there is so little time left and there is yet so much to do? If we are honest, many of us experience a pull between these 2 extremes, but there is a mid-way point just as there is a mid-way point to the season, and it is found in joy.
The joy of the Lord is our strength when we are overwhelmed and weary; it spurs us on to give what we have received; it is the by-product of resting in the sure knowledge that we are loved and sustained by the Creator of the Universe.
In this season of Advent, at the mid-way point, I pray God grant us all the gift of abundant and unfettered joy!
