Dear Members & Friends of Holy Apostles,
From this Canadian's perspective, Thanksgiving seems to be
the American holiday. It's the time of year when families get together and people share their history, traditions, recipes, and Pepto Bismol. Of course, it is also the time to give thanks for all these things and for so much more.
To me, this week feels like a bit of a double whammy, in a good way, because Thursday is Thanksgiving and Sunday is the beginning of Advent. For some perhaps these two seasons might feel like opposites: one is joyful and abundant, the other is reflective and penitential. But Advent is so much more than that.
We are moving into the season of watching and waiting. It is the season of hope, when the promise of God is about to be fulfilled. It is the time of darkness, when we remind ourselves and each other that the Light has come into the world and there is nothing that can or will extinguish its radiance. God has come in the flesh, to be one of us, to save us, love us, live in and with us. I can't think of anything more glorious to be thankful for.
Blessings to you as you feast and give thanks for all God's richest abundance in Christ,
Suzanne.
