Dear Members & Friends of Holy Apostles,
I never fail to marvel at the incredible diversity we have at Holy Apostles from Monday through Friday. Guests and volunteers at the soup kitchen come from every walk of life and from virtually every spiritual tradition -- from Southern Baptists to Muslims to the spiritually curious. I often eat with volunteers to thank them and to hear what brings them to our soup kitchen. While there are as many stories as there are people, there is a common theme. What unites all of us is a deeply held appreciation of the value of simple service. "Serving others" is a fundamental, shared act which speaks to what we believe, even as our more particular beliefs vary.
This year our Thanksgiving Service at Holy Apostles will incorporate that diversity and include more fully our guests and volunteers through an ecumenical service developed by Lucinda Mosher. It is our hope that it reflects and incorporates that rich diversity experienced Monday through Friday at the soup kitchen. On this holiday, we will be united not only in service but in offering thanksgiving as well.
Sincerely,
Glenn
