Music -- a medium that can cut quickly to the soul --commands a strong presence at the Church of the Holy Apostles. Whether on special events or less solemn occasions, much of the Church's musical attention is focused on the van den Heuvel organ, a spectacular instrument that replaced the hand-made Casavant Freres organ destroyed by a fire in 1990.
Dr. David Hurd is music director and organist. He also is organist and professor of church music for the General Theological Seminary in New York. Dr. Hurd shapes the music program at the Church, where performances are as apt to include modern as well as Renaissance selections. Our superb choir is made up of eight salaried professional musicians and several musically skilled members of the congregation who offer their talents. Our choir season is from September through mid-June.
