Biography

Douglas Drake
Organist Douglas Drake is currently in his sixth season serving Broadway United Church of Christ as its music director. As chapel organist for St. Hilda's & St. Hugh's School, also in Manhattan, he presided over the restoration of that institution's 1975 three-manual Rieger organ. Mr. Drake was also associate organist at St. Michael's Church for ten years, where he helped to organize and perform in a series of all-Bach recitals on that church's famous Rudolf von Beckerath organ. It was on that occasion that The New York Times commented upon his "lucid touch." A graduate of the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati, he studied organ with David
Mulbury.
Much in demand as a recitalist, accompanist, and guest music director, Mr. Drake has performed in Merkin Concert Hall and a variety of New York City's houses of worship. He was twice invited to play the Thursday Noon Recital Series at St. Paul's Chapel of Columbia University.
Mr. Drake is a founding member of the Gregorian chant group
Sarum, which sings the office of compline according to 13th century English rite, every Sunday evening at St. Paul's Chapel. In addition to hosting musical events at St. Hilda's & St. Hugh's School celebrating the restoration of the chapel organ, he served as guest music director for three months at the Church of St. Ignatius of Antioch.
