World Gold Council Jewelry Auction
Leaves of Change

We here at Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen are excited to announce Leaves of ChangeTM, a celebrity driven charity benefit campaign in which eleven of Hollywood's leading celebrities from the world of television and film have personally hand-sketched a piece of jewelry with a leaf theme that have been brought to life in real gold by fine jewelry designers this spring.  These gorgeous creations will be auctioned off in May to benefit each celebrity's chosen charity.

We are delighted to tell you that Leaves of ChangeTM participant Susan Sarandon has designed an exquisite leaf piece of jewelry, and has chosen Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen as the beneficiary to receive the proceeds from its sale.  Italian gold designer Licia Mattioli will create only three of this special design.  One will be for the auction, one will be gifted to Ms. Sarandon, and one will be kept for the jeweler's private collection.  This is a wonderful opportunity to share a piece of Ms. Sarandon's heart in the form of a beautiful and entirely unique piece of jewelry, while also supporting the Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen.  We are asking our friends to participate in this auction, and with you help, to turn this opportunity into a great success.

From April 20 to May 7, 2009, an online auction will take place in conjunction with a live auction facilitated by Sotheby's.  To find out more about how to participate in the on line auction, please visit www.leavesofchange.org

Without a doubt, May 7th will be a tremendous day
for the Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen!

We want to share with you Susan's own words in regard to "Leaves of Change" and her long time support of  Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen.

What does this design and your participation in "Leaves of Change" mean to you?

"To be a part of any creative process is an honor, but especially when it serves a higher purpose.  I chose a flat bark-like chain to represent the seemingly rigid structure of life but then I inserted leaves and little blossoms / berries that symbolize all the opportunities for rebirth and renewal that we encounter on our journey."

What does it mean to you to have the piece designed in gold?
"In a world of planned obsolescence and instant gratification, gold is special because its beauty endures forever. I like the idea of wearing a gold symbol of change around my neck as a constant reminder that positive action is a choice and that growth is always possible."

What initially inspired you to select your designated charity?
"I've had a working relationship with Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen for many years.  They have always been committed, accessible and brave through many crises in New York City.  They quietly and steadfastly serve those in New York who are in danger of falling through the cracks.  In these unstable economic times the Soup Kitchen faces increasing demands for their services."
