Do You Need Help in
Preparing Your Will?
A Word From Your Stewardship Committee
Have you been thinking of
finally making, or of amending your will, and need
help in finding an understanding lawyer for this task?
The Church of the Holy Apostles now has a list of
lawyers who have agreed to consult with members and
friends of our parish and assist them in drawing up
their wills. Wills are something everyone should
have. Without a will, the disposition of your
property and other assets will be determined by the
state. And, of course, we hope that you will
remember your parish in your will. Please
contact Wendy Shepherd in the parish office (212)
807-6799 or
wshepherd@holyapostlesnyc.org
and she can either mail or email you a copy.
Healing Rite First Tuesday of
Every Month
On First Tuesdays, the 6:15
p.m. Eucharist will include the Healing Rite, with
anointing and laying on of hands. It is our hope
that this ancient rite will strengthen and encourage
those who participate. If you have any
questions, please speak to one of the clergy.
Tuesday Evening Bible Study
On Tuesday evening following our 6:15 p.m. Eucharist,
the biblical proper from the next Sunday will be
studied with the preacher for that Sunday. Here
is your chance to influence the preaching at Holy
Apostles. Lessons for July 1 will be: Genesis
24:34-38, 42-49, 58-67; Psalm 45; Romans 7:15-25a; and
Matthew 11:16-19,25-30.
Volunteers Needed at the
Soup Kitchen, July 4th
On Friday, July 4th, the Holy
Apostles Soup Kitchen will celebrate Independence Day
by having a picnic meal for its guests. Extra
volunteers are needed for this event - from 9:30 a.m.
to 1:30 p.m. Please contact Dave Madsen if
you can lend a hand.
The Street Fair is Coming
August 9th!
The Holy Apostles Street Fair is
on Saturday, August 9th. As in past years, we
will be running a "Bric-a-Brac" table and need your
donation of salable goods. We won't be able to
accept donations until a week before the fair, but
it's never too early to start. As you do your
Spring cleaning, be sure to set aside any salable
items for later this summer. No clothes or
shoes, please. This year the proceeds will be
divided between two good causes: All Saints' Church,
New Orleans, who continue to deal with the rebuilding,
and Ecclesia at Holy Apostles to help fund our
sponsorship of the church in the park (think of it as
a street fair for street ministry). Stay tuned
for more information about how you can participate in
the street fair and raise money for these two causes.
If you have any questions, please contact one of the
street fair committee members: Chad Rancourt, Rachel
Furer; R. J. Kennedy; or Betsy Farren.

Father Bill to be Interviewed
For an Oral History of his years at Holy Apostles
Plans are underway to record
Bill Greenlaw's recollections of 25 years of service
(23 as Rector) at the Church of the Holy Apostles.
Father Bill holds so much important information, so
much wisdom and insight, and knows many, many
interesting stories about our wonderful church; and he
alone can share all this with us! Bill will be
asked about the founding of the soup kitchen and the
ongoing struggles to keep it open, the 1990 fire, the
history of the music program, the parish community,
our special liturgical traditions, and more.
Much of the work to accomplish this project will be on
a volunteer basis, but we will need to raise money for
the cost of having a professional in this kind of work
transcribe the interview tapes (or digital recording)
in order to produce a printed and bound volume.
The outside estimate for transcription is $1,500 and
we have set that as our goal. Once the goal is
reached we will announce it and stop collecting.
Any funds collected in excess of the transcription
cost will be used for other archival expenses incurred
with Bill's leaving Holy Apostles.
If you would be willing to make a contribution to
defray the costs of this project, please see Richard
Longinetti, Patti Schaffer, or Beth Diefendorf.
In recording Father Bill's recollections of his years
of service, we will be preserving a most important
part of the legacy of the Church of the Holy
Apostles.
Last Day of Choir Season
Our choir season has ended.
Our wonderful choir sings at our Parish Eucharist and
other major services from the Sunday after Labor Day
through Trinity Sunday. Our worship is greatly
enhanced by their presence in our midst. Our choir will return on Sunday, July 27, for Father
Bill's last Sunday as rector. The new choir
season begins on September 7th.
About Church
School During the Summer Months
We continue to minister to our
children throughout the summer. Children in our
summer program will leave the service after the Holy
Gospel and move outside (weather permitting) or
upstairs to participate in fun activities, returning
to the service for the Holy Communion. Alex
Harper will be with the children every Sunday through
July. There will be other volunteers assigned
each Sunday during the month of August. We are
so thankful for the dedication of volunteers from our
congregation. If you would like to become a
volunteer, please see Ellen Knudsen so you can get a
slot on our volunteer schedule. It is the
responsibility of the congregation to support the
children of our parish in their life in Christ...and
it's fun, too. The fall term of our church
school begins the Sunday after Labor Day, September
7th.
Office Hours
Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Fridays 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Summer Church Office Hours
Beginning Monday,
July 7, and continuing until August 29, the church
office will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Monday-Friday. We will return to our regular
office hours beginning Tuesday, September 2.

An
Historical Event, June 26, 2005
On June
26, 2005, Pride Sunday, The Rt. Rev. V. Gene Robinson, Bishop of New
Hampshire
(and first openly-gay bishop), was the Celebrant and Preacher at Holy Apostles
for the Parish Eucharist. This marked the first occasion on which he functioned
liturgically as a bishop within the Diocese of New York. The emotional and
psychological impact of this historic occasion continues to reverberate in the
parish to this day.
Holy
Apostles is pleased to present these sights and sounds of the
days events. Still photos of the service and the
GLBT Pride March that
followed, streaming video and audio highlights of the service, and the text of
Bp. Robinson's sermon can be found via the links below.
