Rector of Holy Apostles Receives Award
From Bishop of New York

At the recent annual Convention of the Episcopal Diocese of New York, the Reverend William A. Greenlaw, Ph.D., rector of the Church of the Holy Apostles and Executive Director of Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen, received “the Bishop’s Cross” from the Right Reverend Mark S. Sisk, Bishop of New York.  The highest award the bishop and diocese bestows upon clergy and laity for distinguished service is the Bishop’s Cross, and it is typically given to two or three persons each year.  This award comes as Father Bill marks his 20th anniversary as rector of Holy Apostles on December 1, observed by the parish on the First Sunday of Advent, November 28, at its 11 a.m. Parish Eucharist and a special reception following.

The actual cross presented was designed by the late Canon Edward West of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine.  It has the initials of Bishop Mark Sisk as well as the Diocese of New York (in Latin) as well as a miter in the center, and is mounted on a red cord to be worn around the neck.  The citation presented along with the cross and read to the assembled convention is reproduced below:
